About us

CDAA is a small informal amateur group serving the Tendring and Colchester districts. CDAA is a member of the Federation of Astronomical Societies.

What data we will collect

On becoming a member of the CDAA, we will collect a small amount of information about you that includes your name, email address and postcode.

Why we will collect it

Personal data shall be obtained for one or more specified and lawful purposes, and shall not be further processed in any manner incompatible with that purpose or those purposes.

How long we will keep it

We will retain your data for the duration of the CDAA financial year. Your personal data shall be destroyed at the end of the financial year. If you notify the club secretary that you intend to leave the society or are removed for non payment of subscriptions or are removed for any other reason then, your data will be retained on our membership system for the duration of that financial year.

  • Your Rights

    You have the following rights under data protection legislation:

    • to access a copy of the information comprised in your personal data;
    • to object to processing of your personal data that is likely to cause or is causing damage or distress;
    • to prevent processing for direct marketing;
    • to object to decisions being taken by automated means;
    • in certain circumstances, to have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased or destroyed; and
    • to seek redress for a breach of data protection legislation;

Sharing your data

We will not share your data with any other organisation without your consent.

Complaints

If you have any complaints about how CDAA collects and/or processes your personal data, you should contact the club’s data protection officer in the first instance. If you are dissatisfied with how your concern/complaint is dealt with by CDAA, you have the right to report your concern/complaint to the Information Commissioners Office (www.ico.org.uk).

Privacy Policy

We will collect your name, email address, postcode and type of membership via a paper membership form.

If you wish to see a copy of the data we hold on you, amend it or have it deleted, you should contact the club’s data protection officer. We undertake to action your request within one calendar month of receiving it.

  • We will collect and process your data for a number of purposes including:

    • Contacting you in case of a meeting cancellation
    • Updating you of any CDAA/astronomical news/interest
    • Deal with your requests and enquiries

The data we collect on you is stored electronically in a database in encrypted format. The data from paper membership forms is kept secure at all times. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable and we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We will, however, where possible, password protected any email documents containing any personal information.
